Of
Diploma in Dental Technician Course ( One Year )
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:
The curriculum of this course is designed to offer theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional values necessary for a career in dental technology. The specific objectives are:
1-To impart fundamental knowledge of dental sciences including dental anatomy, oral physiology, and tooth morphology relevant to dental laboratory work.
2-To familiarize students with dental materials, their physical and chemical properties, manipulation techniques, and clinical applications.
3-To train students in the fabrication of complete dentures, partial dentures, crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances using standard laboratory protocols.
4-To develop high-level practical skills in wax modeling, casting, finishing, and polishing of dental prosthetics with accuracy and precision.
5-To provide hands-on training in impression techniques, model preparation, and die-making for fixed and removable prosthesis.
6-To ensure safe and proficient use of dental laboratory equipment, including micro-motors, cast trimmers, curing units, and furnaces.
7-To introduce modern digital dental technology, including basics of CAD/CAM and 3D printing applications in dental prosthetics (introductory level).
8-To ensure thorough understanding of infection control, sterilization, biomedical waste disposal, and laboratory hygiene protocols.
9-To encourage teamwork and collaboration, enabling technicians to work efficiently with dentists and other lab staff in a clinical setting.
10-To promote ethical and professional behavior, patient confidentiality, and adherence to legal standards and dental council regulations.
11-To expose students to real-world practices through internship or clinical postings in dental labs and clinics for practical experience.
12-To build effective communication and documentation skills, including record-keeping, job cards, and communicating technical specifications to dental professionals.
13-To prepare students for self-employment or entrepreneurship, equipping them with knowledge of setting up and managing a dental lab.
14-To encourage continuous learning, research awareness, and upskilling in emerging dental technologies and materials.
15-To enable students to meet national healthcare demands, contributing to dental health services, particularly in rural and under served areas.

Semester 1:Basic Dental Technology
Module 1: Introduction to Dental Technology
Duration:Two weeks

Objective:To introduce the profession, work environment, lab equipment, instruments, and fundamental responsibilities of a dental technician.
Module 2:Dental Anatomy & Physiology
Duration:Four Weeks
Type :Theory + Practical
Objective:To provide understanding of the structure and function of oral tissues, teeth, and supporting structures.
Module 3:Dental Materials
Duration :Four Weeks
Type :Theory + Practical
Objective:To gain knowledge of commonly used dental materials and their correct handling procedures.
Module 4:Complete Denture Fabrication – Part 1
Duration:Six Weeks
Type :Theory + Practical
Objective:To train in primary steps of complete denture making, from impression to jaw relation.
Module 5:Infection Control & Lab Safety
Duration :Two Weeks

Objective:To ensure hygienic practices and compliance with infection control standards.

Semester 2:Advanced Dental Prosthetics &Clinical Training
Module 7:Complete Denture Fabrication – Part 2
Duration :Four Weeks
Type :Theory+ Practical
Objective:To complete processing and finishing steps of complete denture prosthesis.
Module 8:Partial Denture Fabrication
Duration:Six Weeks
Type :Theory + Practical
Objective:To construct removable partial dentures using various retention methods.
Module 9:Orthodontic Appliance Fabrication
Duration:Five Weeks
Type :Theory + Practical
Objective:To fabricate basic removable orthodontic appliances for dental correction.
Module 10: Crown & Bridge Work (Fixed Prosthesis)
Duration :Five Weeks
Type :Theory + Practical
Objective:To teach the process of fixed prosthesis including crown/bridge waxing and casting.

Module 11:Clinical Lab Internship / Case Exposure
Duration:Three Weeks
Objective:To offer students initial exposure to real-world dental laboratory environments, enabling them to understand lab workflows, observe case processing, and assist in basic dental prosthesis tasks under professional guidance.
